Teamwork in Action
Audience: Any work team, management team, task force or committee
Prerequisites: None
Course Duration: 1 day
Course Level: Beginners and Intermediate
There is clear evidence that the work of an integrated team can exceed the sum of its individual members. This depends not only upon getting the best from the individuals, but also upon enabling them to draw upon the abilities of the group as a whole so that they can confidently tackle problems and make effective decisions.
In order to release the potential of a team, its members must learn how to work together and gain experience of each other. During this process they will recognise the range of skills and knowledge within the group, constructively make use of differences of opinion between individuals, develop mutual trust, and direct their combined resources towards a common goal.
This participative workshop demonstrates how a team functions and how it can realise its full potential. It uses group problem-solving exercises, diagnostic tools and established models to provide insight into the strengths and weaknesses of the team. Participants examine various factors which affect working relationships, and learn how to highlight and address problem areas within the team.
This course can be used as a starting point for more in-depth team development.
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
• explain what distinguishes a team from a group
• communicate more easily about issues affecting team efficiency
• give greater support to each other
• work collaboratively to overcome challenges
• describe aspects of personality and roles that affect team success
• review and improve team processes and procedures
• identify how to improve their own contribution to the team
In this highly practical course you will learn:
Effective Teamwork
• What are the essential characteristics of teamwork?
• How do we keep improving it?
• How to organise ourselves as a team.
• What makes a proper team different from just a group?
